When most people think of Walt Disney World, they picture thrilling rides, character meet-and-greets, and magical days inside the theme parks. But did you know there’s so much more to do outside the parks?

It’s no secret that Florida can get hot—and spending hours in the sun can be exhausting, especially for little ones. That’s why I always recommend guests plan at least one rest day during their vacation. The good news? Rest days at Disney are far from boring!

Here are some of my favorite non-park activities that will keep the magic alive while giving you a chance to cool down and relax.

1. Soar Above Walt Disney World on the Skyliner

Even if you're not staying at a resort with Skyliner access, it’s easy to hop on a Disney bus to get there. Once aboard, you’ll enjoy a breezy ride and stunning bird’s-eye views of Walt Disney World.

🚠 Pro Tip: Ride mid-day for the best chance of having a gondola all to yourself—perfect for relaxing and snapping a few photos!

2. Resort Hopping: Explore the Magic Beyond the Parks

Resort hopping is one of Disney’s best-kept secrets—and it’s totally free! The Skyliner conveniently connects you to several resorts worth exploring:

  • Caribbean Beach Resort

  • Disney’s Riviera Resort

  • Pop Century Resort

  • Art of Animation Resort

  • BoardWalk Inn

  • Beach Club Resort

  • Yacht Club Resort

You’ll also find Swan and Dolphin resorts just a short walk away from the BoardWalk area.

Whether you’re admiring the immersive themes, grabbing a snack, or checking out the gift shops, resort hopping is a relaxing and fun way to experience even more Disney magic without a park ticket.

💡 While dining reservations are needed to eat at certain resort restaurants, exploring the lobbies, grounds, and gift shops is open to everyone!

3. Cool Off at the Resort Pool

While Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach offer big thrills, they can still mean long lines and lots of sun. For a more relaxing option, head to your resort pool.

Every Disney resort has at least one pool—and many offer shaded seating, splash zones for kids, and poolside bars for grown-ups. It’s the perfect spot to unwind with a cold drink and maybe even sneak in a midday nap.

4. Create Your Own Tie-Dye T-Shirt

Looking for a hands-on activity that doubles as a souvenir? Try tie-dye! This family-friendly craft is available at select Disney resorts—and you don’t have to be staying there to join in.

🎨 Cost: Approximately $17 per shirt📍 Available at:

  • Pop Century Resort

  • Art of Animation Resort

  • Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter & Riverside

  • Caribbean Beach Resort

  • Contemporary Resort

  • BoardWalk Inn

  • Old Key West Resort

  • Polynesian Village Resort

  • Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

  • Wilderness Lodge

  • Beach Club Resort

Tie-dye sessions are typically walk-up (unless otherwise posted, especially during the holidays), and cast members are always nearby to help.

More Disney Magic, No Park Ticket Needed

Walt Disney World is full of surprises—even outside the parks. Whether you’re soaring high above property on the Skyliner, lounging by the pool, or creating a one-of-a-kind souvenir, these non-park activities make your vacation even more memorable.
